When I Grow Up on BBC Radio 4
BBC Radio 4 has made a five-part documentary series about the NCDS. Called ‘When I grow up’, it focuses on essays that cohort members wrote when they were 11 years old on the topic ‘Imagine you are 25’. The 15-minute episodes were broadcast every Tuesday morning at 9.30 a.m. from 16 February 2010.
The episodes are available for you to listen to below. The series has also generated a considerable amount of media coverage.
The documentary series included interviews with 12 cohort members about how their lives have turned out with reference to their essays. A range of people from across the country, chosen from those who had recently taken part in a sub-study on social participation, were invited to be interviewed.
This is the first time that a documentary maker has been granted direct access to cohort members. Raising the profile of NCDS in this way should help to ensure important evidence generated from the study makes a difference to peoples’ lives through informing policy and practice. As you know, we would never release the names and addresses of cohort members to anyone without their permission.
