Eighth NCDS survey commences

19 August 2008

The start of the eighth sweep of the National Childhood Development Study was marked by an article in The Guardian.

The 50th anniversary follow-up of the NCDS cohort has now begun. The eighth sweep of the study includes a 60 minute face-to-face interview and a paper self-completion questionnaire.  Fieldwork is being conducted by the National Centre for Social Research and will run until early next year. Further details about the content of this year’s study can be found here.

The launch of the new study was mentioned in today’s issue of the Guardian in an article by Polly Toynbee calling for researchers to make more use of the rich and unique data collected by the study and the other birth cohort studies over the years. Read the article here.

Polly Toynbee also wrote the foreword for the recent report Now we are 50: Key findings from the National Child Development Study. This report, edited by Jane Elliott and Romesh Vaitilingam, is available to read here.
