Cross-cohort research: opportunities, challenges and examples

This event will offer an overview of the opportunities and challenges in cross-cohort research. It will provide participants with an awareness of the advantages and potential pitfalls in carrying out comparative research and will help to guide good practice. The workshop is aimed primarily at early career researchers.

Session 1: CLOSER data harmonisation

Followed by small group work led by Graciela Muniz-Terrera and Rebecca Hardy, MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing at UCL - Principles of data harmonisation

Session 2: Cross-cohort research examples

  • Jenny Head, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (UCL)- Approaches to cross-national research on health and employment in later life: the renEWL and IDEAR studies
  • Susan Hodgson, MRC-PHE Centre for Environment & Health (Imperial College London)- BioSHaRE Environmental Determinants of Health project: opportunities and challenges of cross-cohort working

Session 3:

  • Graciela Muniz-Terrera, MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing at UCL- Analytical approaches in cross-cohort research
