Research Methods Short Course: International comparisons of educational attainment

23rd April 2015 to 24th April 2015

Tutor: Dr John Jerrim

23-24 April 2015 | £525

This two-day course aims to develop a systematic understanding, and a critical awareness, of current issues surrounding international comparisons.

It teaches students how to download and analyse complex quantitative cross-national datasets such as PISA, PIRLS and TIMSS and will cover topics such as the use of Balanced Repeated Replication (BRR) weights, the estimation of regression models using complex databases, and the development and running of programmes in STATA to efficiently conduct cross-national analyses. An understanding of basic statistics (mean, median, correlation, bivariate OLS regression, statistical inference, confidence intervals) is required.
