Research for policy

30th April 2014 to 1st May 2014

Most courses run from 10.00 to 17.00 each day, although some may start at 9.30 or 9.45.

This two-day course is for people who want to understand the relationship between research and policy. The course aims to familiarise students with the theory and practical issues concerning the placing of research into the policy arena; both from a research point of view and from a policy maker’s point of view. The course is suitable for academics and policy makers. Students will listen to a range of guest lectures by leading academics and policy makers such as:

  • David Budge: Evidence-informed policy-making: the view from the press office
  • Dr Rebecca Allen: The Brighton and Hove School Lottery
  • Professor Gemma Moss: Policy from a policy maker’s perspective
  • Leon Feinstein: Data and policy
  • Tim Butcher: The Role of Research in Evidence-based Policymaking at the Low Pay Commission
  • Lee Elliott Major: Enabling Research to Impact on Policy and Practice
